STATEMENT: IT’S TIME TO END THE SHAM GABLEMAN AUDIT

Recounts, court decisions, multiple reviews have affirmed the results of the 2020 elections

Madison, Wisc. – Following the 2020 presidential election, recounts, court decisions, and multiple other reviews have affirmed Wisconsin’s results. Despite the overwhelming evidence that Wisconsin’s election was free and fair, Wisconsin taxpayers continue to fund a sham audit by former State Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman. On Wednesday, a second Wisconsin judge ordered Gableman’s team to stop destroying public records.

Under pressure from former President Donald Trump, Assembly Speaker Robin Vos hired Gableman to “audit” the 2020 election. Gableman has spent $676,000 so far rehashing the same settled arguments about the vote count.

Protect Wisconsin Elections State Director Amanda Pustz issued the following statement calling on state legislators to end the sham audit:

“It’s astounding that Gableman’s team is destroying public records as they continue to prop up misinformation about the 2020 elections. This was an unnecessary and wasteful exercise from the start, and is undermining trust in Wisconsin’s election integrity. Enough is enough: It’s time to end the sham Gableman audit.

“Poll after poll makes it clear: Wisconsinites trust our election process, which is consistently rated among the best in the nation. By letting this audit continue, Speaker Vos and state elected officials risk eroding that trust and confidence in democracy overall. Protect Wisconsin Elections is calling on Wisconsinites – right, left, and center – to call their state lawmakers and demand that they end the sham.”
