STATEMENT: VOS APPOINTS DON MILLIS TO BIPARTISAN WISCONSIN ELECTIONS COMMISSION
Protect Wisconsin Elections urges Millis to support the Commission and continue the state’s legacy of outstanding election administration
Madison, Wisc. — Assembly Speaker Robin Vos announced Wednesday he would appoint Don Millis as the next Republican member to the bipartisan Wisconsin Elections Commission (WEC). The position was vacated by former Commissioner Dean Knudson, who abruptly resigned last month. Protect Wisconsin Elections is calling on Mills to uphold the long tradition of election integrity in Wisconsin.
According to nonpartisan analysts, Wisconsin ran the fourth best elections in the country in 2020. The WEC is a big reason for that. Led by appointed commissioners from both sides of the aisle, the bipartisan agency is uniquely positioned to run fair elections shielded from politics.
“The more-than-1,800 county and municipal election clerks in Wisconsin deserve a WEC that prioritizes voter access and accurate vote counting, not guidance that peddles to anti-democratic extremists,” said Protect Wisconsin Elections State Director Amanda Pustz. “While we have questions about how Millis views the WEC, we urge him – and the Commission as a whole – to continue the legacy of outstanding election administration in Wisconsin. All Wisconsin voters must have the ability to make their voices heard in the direction of our state and nation.”
The WEC’s next meeting is Friday, where commissioners could select the next commission chair. Because Commission chairs alternate between the two major parties, the next chair must be a Republican.
